LETTER: A world turned upside down

Our world has turned upside down. A few months ago America enjoyed historically high prosperity and the best employment rate ever, especially for Black Americans.

Boom! As COVID-19 hit the economy nosedived, unemployment soared, businesses and schools closed and we sheltered in place.

The greatest impact fell upon young adults otherwise not greatly threatened by the virus. Their pent up energy and frustrations received an outlet with the catalyst of the tragic killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis and appropriate demands for justice.

Justice was served when Floyd’s killers were jailed and charged with murder. Nevertheless, civil rights activists and media-fueled hysteria to promote victimization agendas with fraudulent claims of systemic racism in policing.

Serious rioting occurred in cities controlled for decades by liberals and progressives with many led by Black mayors and police chiefs with well integrated police forces, hardly bastions of systemic racism.

Safe streets became home to mobs of young looters, anarchists, arsonists, vandals, agitators and other social miscreants and activists. What was initially a true cause for justice was squandered. Justice is never a product of mob violence.

I give kudos to the nobility of our police and national guardsmen, who show incredible restraint while working in dangerous conditions to protect life and property and restore order. They deserve our thanks and respect.
