LETTER: Trump’s decision disrespects West Point grads

Mr. Trump recently informed the U.S. Military Academy he would give the graduation address at this year’s commencement exercise, requiring over 1,000 cadets to return to West Point from all over America for the ceremony.

This action is short-sighted, unnecessary and strictly a political maneuver, a campaign re-election whistle stop.

The NFL conducted a virtual 2020 three-day draft that went off without a hitch. The Naval Academy will hold a virtual ceremony as well. The Air Force Academy had seniors sit 8 feet apart at their ceremony, but Mr. Trump observed he didn’t like “the look” of a spread-out formation, hoping West Point cadets would be “nice and tight.” That directly counters the directions issued by his own CDC and common sense.

A true leader would be concerned about his troops' health and welfare. That seems not to be the case here.
