SRSO: Detectives suspect person whose remains were found outside Milton was murdered
A follow-up investigation into the discovery of human remains in a wooded area outside of Milton has led detectives to suspect the person might have been murdered, according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
According to SRSO spokesman Sgt. Rich Aloy, the human remains were located about 1 p.m. Sunday in a wooded lot off Sandy Forest Road in Milton.
Aloy said the person who first spotted “what appeared to be skeletal remains” called 911, and detectives were dispatched to the woods and confirmed the skeletal remains were human.
After investigating the matter for three days, detectives began to suspect foul play was involved in the person’s death.
“At this time, all indicators are leading Major Crimes Detectives to suspect this death was a homicide,” Aloy announced on Wednesday.
While authorities have identified the body, the person’s name had yet to be made public as of 4 p.m. Wednesday pending notification of their next of kin.
The exact cause of death is still under investigation.
