Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Capt. Tamra Malphurs said the incident was reported around 5:05 p.m. at 4600 S. Atlantic Avenue.

The bite initially came in as a trauma call and when an Ocean Rescue officer got to the scene, he reported it as shark bite, Malphurs said.

The victim was an 11-year-old boy from Lake Wales, Malphurs said.
