Emergency responders discovered three workers had been trapped under rubble from the collapsed roof. First responders were able to free all the workers from the debris, but two were seriously injured and a third had suffered fatal injuries, the Facebook post said.
One of the surviving workers was taken to a hospital by ambulance and the other was taken to a hospital by helicopter, a public information officer for the Chipley Police Department said Monday.
The names of the people involved in the incident were not immediately released.
The building previously housed Hays Barbershop, which closed years ago, and Sapp's Jewelers, which had relocated.
Personnel from the Chipley fire and police departments, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County EMS assisted in the response.
