18-year-old charged with murder in death of Pensacola hip hop artist 'Frozonee'
An 18-year-old from Pensacola has been arrested on suspicion of killing local hip-hop artist Kuanterion Rivers.
Axtavian Harris was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree murder and probation violation. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail without bond.
According to his arrest report, multiple witnesses told Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies they saw Harris shoot Rivers last month.
Rivers, an 18-year-old who performed under the stage name "Frozonee," was found lying unresponsive on the ground around 7 p.m. June 20 at the Oakwood Terrace Apartments on Truman Avenue.
He had gunshot wounds to his upper left arm and to the upper right side of his chest. A paramedic pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Multiple witnesses told law enforcement they had either seen or heard other people say that “Shawn Shawn” had shot Rivers, according to Harris' arrest report. ECSO deputies later confirmed that was a known alias for Harris.
Witnesses said that at the time of the shooting, Rivers was standing near an alley between two apartment complex buildings. Harris approached Rivers, words were exchanged and Harris fired a handgun multiple times at Rivers, according to the arrest report.
After firing the weapon, witnesses said Harris ran to a white Chrysler parked nearby and fled in the car.
One woman said she spoke to Harris after the shooting and he "admitted to her that Rivers wanted to fight," the report stated. "(The woman) stated Harris said he wasn't going to fight, and he shot him."
County records indicated that Harris remained in custody as of Wednesday morning.
