President of Santa Rosa teachers union accused of firing gun at another woman
The president of the Santa Rosa Education Association teachers union was arrested last week for allegedly firing a gun at another woman.
Rhonda Chavers, 64, of Milton, was arrested Thursday, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill and booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail with a $1,000 bond. County records indicate she was released from custody later that day.
According to her arrest report, a Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a reported disturbance in the 6300 block of Fairfield Drive and spoke to a woman who claimed Chavers had shot a gun at her.
The woman said she and her husband were standing in Chavers' front yard when Chavers drove up in a vehicle and told the woman to get off her property.
The woman said she started to leave the property when Chavers used a handgun to fire three bullets, the report stated.
The woman told law enforcement that two of the bullets "went just over her head."
