Teens perform 'Legally Blonde Jr.' for family audiences
MIRAMAR BEACH — The next production in the Emerald Coast Theatre Co.'s Educational Theatre series is "Legally Blonde Jr.: The Musical."
Performances are at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 12 and 13; at 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14; and at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15.
Performed by ECTC thespian teens, "Legally Blonde Jr." follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Elle takes matters into her own hands by crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.
“As they say, children are the future," said ECTC co-founder and producing artistic director Nathanael Fisher, introducing the ECTC "junior" thespian program for teenagers in August.
"This year, we are beyond excited to begin our education outreach ‘sooner’ to the very young, and for our highly-engaged thespians — many who have performed with us for seven years," Fisher said. "Instead of aging out, the Junior Co. ensures they can continue to grow with us while receiving professional performing arts training and preparation beyond high school."
"'Legally Blonde Jr.' features the Junior Co.'s talented teens in an energetic musical that’s fun for the entire family," Fisher said. The show is based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture.
Tickets are $15 per person in advance, or $18 each at the door. Purchase tickets online at www.emeraldcoasttheatre.org. In accordance with CDC guidelines, all offerings will be performed in ECTC’s performance space located at 560 Grand Blvd., in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin in Miramar Beach.
In addition, the Educational Theatre program "Annie! Kids" presents one of Broadway’s most beloved family-friendly musical comedy classics via ECTC's outreach program in DeFuniak Springs. Performances will be at the Florida Chautauqua Theatre at 7 p.m. Nov. 21, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 22.
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Throw in a grumpy billionaire and an adorable dog named Sandy and you’ve got something to smile about.
Tickest to "Annie! Kids" are $12 per person in advance and $15 at the door. Proceeds benefit ECTC and its Theatre Education programs.
