The full page ad in the Sept. 21 paper by “Moving Santa Rosa Forward” seems to make a strong case FOR an Impact Fee.
Had there been an impact fee in place five years ago there could be dollars instead of zeros in a number of the line items listed.
As I have noted, impact fees alone aren’t enough, but with them I can support the increase in taxes that are also needed. Lest history repeat itself, I would encourage our leaders to implement an Impact fee now to help cover the needs as a result of the projected 10,000 new homes built over the next 5 and 1/2 years.
As it is now they are proposing an increase in the Local Option Sales Tax and our property tax. (Notice in the same paper). Maybe an impact fee could make the difference between, again, asking for additional new taxes increase, both LOST and property tax increase, five years from now, or at least allow for a smaller increase.
