CRESTVIEW -- The condition of a 14-year-old Crestview girl who was struck by a car Friday night has improved from critical to stable condition, according to Maj. Andrew Schneider with the Crestview Police Department.

Jada Sabio was with a group of teens walking in Stillwell Boulevard about 9 p.m. when she was struck by a car.

Schneider said it was still unclear whether the teens were trying to cross the road or were just walking in it to reach a nearby store.

Security video shows them walking into and standing in the travel lanes, according to a weekend CPD press release.

The accident happened in the 200 block of Stillwell.

The driver was unable to see the group before striking one Sabio, according to initial reports. Other teens said they were "brushed" by the car but uninjured, Schneider said.

Sabio was initially transported by helicopter to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and was later transferred by helicopter a second time to a Pensacola area hospital.

This investigation remains active and ongoing.

Schneider said they are still waiting to speak to Sabio before concluding their investigation and determining whether any charges will be filed.
