NAVARRE — From Navarre and its barrier island to the East Coast is at least a five-hour drive.

However, Vents Magazine reporter RJ Frometa called the unincorporated Gulf-front community "one of the five exciting East Coast cities you must visit on your road trip."

And, if you want to get picky, Navarre is still considering incorporating and becoming a city.

But none of that matters to Julie White.

"I think it’s awesome and I agree," said White, the Santa Rosa County Tourism Development Council executive director.

She lives on Navarre Beach, which set a record in the 2019 fiscal year by collecting $3.9 million in bed tax.

Vents Magazine ranked Navarre 4 out of 5 on its list published Thursday. Other ranked cities included Milton, Delaware; Killington, Vermont; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Duxbury, Massachusetts.

The article said that "this quiet town provides the perfect amount of seclusion for an ideal coastal retreat."

In addition, it compared its beaches to Myrtle Beach, calling them "sunny destinations with some of the best beaches on the East Coast."

White said, "That’s cool."

With its small budget compared to its neighbors on the Gulf Coast, White said she will take any media she can get for the area known for its relaxing vibe, largest pier in Florida and pristine white sandy beaches.

"I’ve never even heard of it," White said of the publication that bills itself as the "premier online publication for music news, entertainment, movies, and other articles online." And run since 2009 by a team of dedicated volunteers who love music. "But I like exposure, especially that’s free."
