DEFUNIAK SPRINGS — A DeFuniak Springs man was arrested on Monday after he reportedly burned multiple items he had given his live-in girlfriend, almost causing the house to burn down.
According to authorities, 23-year old Hunter Garner started the fire after having an argument with his girlfriend over the future of their relationship.
When DeFuniak Springs Police arrived at the home, they found that Garner had extinguished the flames, but not before damaging many items belonging to his girlfriend.
Garner was not in the home when officers arrived. He was later located walking in the area, according to a press release from the police department.
After a short foot pursuit, Garner was arrested and booked into the Walton County Jail. He is charged with criminal mischief and arson.
“Thankfully no one was injured in his bit of fiery rage,” Police Chief James Hurley said. “We were looking for him most of the day and stopped him before he could return to potentially do more damage.”
