On a recent scroll through my Instagram feed, I noticed a lot of sunsets, smiling faces and the usual photos of food and abs.

I wondered how I could make some of my posts stand out, and I began selecting the black-and-white filter.

I realized that this “old school” look made my photos look fresh.

For example, a photo with a clear blue sky offered a different kind of contrast when void of color. The clouds stood out more, which was the exact thing I wanted to showcase in the image.

I also noticed that shadows were more prominent in images that were black and white.

I am impressed every day with our beautiful area and the colors that come with it, so I don’t want you to think I am ungrateful.

But if you are looking to change your photo routine on social media, try it in black and white.

You may like what you see.
