The Shalimar Library has become the new home to 20 pieces of art created by Shalimar Elementary School students.

The students entered Mardi Gras masks they created in the school district’s annual art show. After the show, library volunteer LeAnn Caravello invited the students to visit the library’s children section, where the masks are displayed.

The first-grade LEGO League teams of West DeFuniak Elementary School attended the LEGO League expo recently, where they demonstrated what they learned about teamwork, collaboration and engineering.

Team members include Cole Davis, Abigail Simmons, Landry Ingle, Aaron Grace Hicks, Zane May, Jocelyn Reese, Bryson Parker, Camilla Harris, Rhett Durden, Sera Beck, Allison Mayhue and Jada McBride.

Niceville High School senior Indira Mishra received honorary merit recognition in the National Merit Scholarship program.

Paxton School sixth-grader Clara Martin placed second at the Walton School District’s Tropicana Speech competition held in April.

Fort Walton Beach High School teachers Devon LaMonica and Megan Mueller received a combined $11,111 from the Johann E. Doum 2019 Program Scholarship for Teachers.

This scholarships is awarded in memory of FWBHS student Johann E. Doum, who lost his battle with leukemia in 2016.

Recipients demonstrate a positive attitude and a desire to improve FWBHS.

On May 4 Edwins Elementary School hosted the Jr. Viking Color Run for the second year in a row. Students, faculty and community members enjoyed exercise while getting covered in powder from head to toe.

“This fundraiser was a success thanks to the local businesses, color run participants, volunteers, Edwins faculty and staff,” said Principal Jeannette Grimes.

Santa Rosa County’s UF/IFAS Extension hosts a day camp for students who wish to learn basic care about raising rabbits from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 11-12.
