MILTON ― Three people were killed in a fiery head-on collision early Saturday morning on a northern Santa Rosa County highway, lawmen say.

The wreck occurred around midnight near the Thornberry Road intersection of Chumuckla Highway, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck was heading north on the highway when he drifted into the left lane, smashing head-on into a Jeep Wrangler, the FHP said.

After the collision, both vehicles were totally engulfed in flames.

The two drivers, and a passenger in the Jeep were killed. Their identities were being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Alcohol was not considered a factor.
