NAVARRE — A mother, her 2-year-old, and a roommate were displaced by a house fire Wednesday night that started in their garage and was further fueled by a car, fire officials said.

According to Holley-Navarre Fire Chief Ron Norton, fire crews responded to the house fire at around 7:45 p.m. on El Paseo Street and saw heavy fire coming from the garage area.

The residents were in the home at the time of the fire but made it out safely. The home was at a total loss after the rest of the home sustained heavy smoke and water damage, Norton said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Florida State Fire Marshal's office.

The residents were able to stay with a friend last night. The American Red Cross has also made contact, Norton said.
