DeFUNIAK SPRINGS — The small city of DeFuniak Springs, known for its circular lake, has been named the Best Small Town in Florida by MSN.com’s Insider Online.
In an article written by Frank Olito for MSN.com entitled The Best Small Town in Every State, DeFuniak Springs came away with the title for Florida, according to a press release from Main Street DeFuniak Springs.
Insider went state-by-state to find small towns with an excess of activities for locals and visitors. While some of the towns and villages are bustling tourist destinations, others are quiet suburban communities that are home to only a select few.
The populations range from only a few hundred to more than 14,000, but one thing remained the same across the country: each community is a great example of a small town in their state.
DeFuniak Springs joins a list highlighted by towns such as Blowing Rock, North Carolina; Port Townsend, Washington; Eufaula, Alabama; and Helen, Georgia, the release said.
“This designation is a great honor and one we strive to live up to year after year," Jay Evans, executive director of Main Street DeFuniak Springs, said in the release.
"We begin our year with the annual Chautauqua Assembly; celebrating our history of arts and education and end the year with our Christmas Reflections festival of lights, and throughout the year we celebrate the who we are — a small Southern town with open arms," Evans said. "We are DeFuniak Springs, Florida, and we are Naturally Well Rounded.”
