NAVARRE — Firefighters with Navarre Beach Fire Rescue spent part of their Thursday afternoon on a fishing expedition — reeling in a Lexus SUV from Santa Rosa Sound.

According to Fire Chief Danny Fureigh, a local man pulled up to the Navarre Beach Boat Ramp about 1 p.m. and got out to take a photo for family members considering moving to the area. But he had left the car in drive and it rolled off the ramp and into the water.

“The guy was so embarrassed. I felt so bad,” Fureigh said.

Once in the water, the SUV rolled upside down.

Firefighters got the vehicle out of the water. It is unclear how much damage the SUV sustained, but the back windshield was broken during the retrieval.
