MILTON — Milton city council approved a motion to explore giving funds to the Historic Cemetery Board for security for the Milton Historic Cemetery at the Aug. 14 council meeting.

HCB president Pam Mitchell approached the council meeting at the Aug. 6 council meeting and asked for funds to provide security cameras to help protect the cemetery. Mitchell said that cemetery was in need of security after multiple counts of vandalism done to the cemetery including damage to the headstones and the fences.

“The cemetery is my passion,” Mitchell said. “I hope you will consider it and help.”

Councilman Casey Powell said this was something important to the city as well as him personally as he has family members buried in the cemetery.

The council voted unanimously to put the item on the Aug. 14 meeting agenda. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m.
