With this column I've tried to establish the fact I love video games. In fact, probably the only thing I love more than video games (besides my wife, family, friends and dogs) is "Star Wars."
You would think "Star Wars" would be a perfect fit to make the jump from the the big screen to the video game controller. And it has. There have been more than 100 officially licensed "Star Wars" games over the years. Not all of them have been great, or even good.
But there are some true gems inspired by George Lucas' galaxy.
My favorite game of all time is "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic," a role-playing game that takes place about 4,000 years before Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. And 15 years after it was released, it still has one of the best twist endings of any video game.
The current big "Star Wars" game that I've been playing is "Battlefront 2." It's primarily a multiplayer shooter like the "Call of Duty" games, which isn't my favorite genre. However, it's fun, looks incredible and does a great job of making you feel like you're in one of the battles from the movies.
It's the next big "Star Wars" game that really has me excited, though. Vince Zampella, the CEO of "Titanfall" developer Respawn Entertainment, announced at E3 that his studio's next game is going to be called "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order." No gameplay was shown off, but the game is going to be set after the events of "Revenge of the Sith." You're going to be playing as a Jedi padawan who survived the initial Jedi purge and now has to survive in the galaxy. That sounds amazing to me.
What I really want at this point is a "Star Wars" game for the Nintendo Switch, something I can play at home or take on the go with me. I reached out to Ben Walke, the community manager for EA's "Star Wars" games, on Twitter recently to find out if that was a possibility.
"I think in general, the Switch (as a platform) is something we're looking at. Who knows what will happen in the future," he responded.
The Switch is selling well, so hopefully this happens.
