CENTURY — Inmates at Century Correctional Institution are on "restricted movement" following a disturbance Thursday night at the prison in Escambia County.
About 40 inmates in a dorm were involved in the incident, according to Patrick Manderfield, press secretary for the Florida Department of Corrections.
"Due to the swift deployment of institutional staff and FDC response teams, the situation was quickly brought under control," Manderfield said in an email.
Manderfield did not elaborate on what caused the disturbance.
He said a small number of inmates and staff suffered minor injuries.
Century Correctional Institution is a level 5 facility for men. It has a capacity of 1,345 inmates and has 306 staff members.
Restricted movement means the facility was placed on lockdown as a precaution. The institution was in the process of returning to normal operations as of Friday afternoon, according to Manderfield.
"The Department is reviewing the incident and assessing inmates for disciplinary action and transfer. Century CI is on restricted movement at this time," Manderfield said.
