PACE — After an hours-long search, authorities located the pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run accident Thursday that seriously injured a pedestrian.

The silver Dodge pickup truck was heading west on U.S. Highway 90 at about 1 p.m. just past East Spencer Field Road when it veered off the right shoulder and hit Shirley Pitts, 58, of Pace, according to a news release from Florida Highway Patrol.

The truck then re-entered the westbound lanes, crossed over the grass median and crashed into a boat on a trailer being pulled by a 2011 GMC pickup truck driven by Caleb Howton, 30, of Chelsea, Alabama.

The Dodge truck left the scene without stopping, the news release said. Pitts was taken to Sacred Heart of Pensacola with serious injuries. Howton was not injured.

The FHP announced Thursday night that the truck had been found and that the investigation was continuing.
