JAY — A 13-year-old Jay High School student faces a felony charge of falsely reporting a bomb threat, as well as a misdemeanor charge of disrupting a school function.
The student allegedly texted another student at the school that "The bomb is active get out of there," according to his Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office arrest report. That text was followed by a string of what looked like Chinese characters and then another text which said, "10 minutes."
The principal made the decision to evacuate Jay High School and Jay Elementary School, which is next door. Students and faculty were moved to the football stadium, causing a major disruption, the report said.
The student, who was later charged, approached an administrator and told them something which was redacted from his arrest report. A press release from the Sheriff's Office said that the student was supposedly playing a joke.
After about 30-45 minutes, students were allowed to return to the school.
The incident happened Monday at about 1:15 p.m.
