FLOMATON, Ala. — An attorney in Jay has been charged with driving under the influence following a head-on collision April 13 that sent three people to the hospital.

Megan S. Ivey, 32, was heading north in the southbound lanes of Highway 31 north of Flomaton, Alabama, about 8:30 p.m. when she struck another vehicle, according to the Alabama State Police.

Witnesses said Ivey was heading north when she crossed into the southbound lanes. Witnesses said a southbound semitrailer swerved to avoid Ivey's vehicle, but that she struck another car about a half-mile north of the Frank P. "Skippy" White Bridge.

Ivey was not injured. However, three occupants in the other vehicle were taken by ambulance to D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton, Alabama. The names of the victims and their conditions were not immediately available.

Crews from the Flomaton and Friendship fire departments and the Flomaton Police Department responded to the scene.

She was charged with DUI and taken to  Escambia County, Alabama, Detention Center in Brewton and was released on bond later.
