The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office is warning residents that a scam involving criminals impersonating law enforcement officers is operating in the area.

Lawmen say complaints have been filed in neighboring counties and could be happening in Santa Rosa County.

In the typical scenario, the scammer calls or emails someone and says they missed a court date or had a warrant for their arrest, and must send money via prepaid cards to have the charges dismissed.

The Sheriff's Office is asking that residents share this information so that others can become aware of the scam and avoid being victimized by the con artists.
