NAVARRE — A 36-year-old Milton man died Wednesday morning when he lost control of his vehicle after driving over a patch of ice.
According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at 6:18 a.m., Edward Joe Meno Santos of Milton was traveling north on State Road 87 north of OLF Choctaw Road when his vehicle ran over a patch of ice that had "formed across the entire lane." Santos was unable to maintain control of his vehicle, causing it to careen across the road and over a median before colliding with a roadway milling machine.
The car was then "re-directed to the west," back into the northbound lane of travel, where it came to a rest facing the northwest.
A traffic homicide investigation is currently under way, according to the FHP.
