PACE — Former Santa Rosa Sheriff Wendell Hall will be honored during a public ceremony with the designation of Sheriff Wendell Hall Highway.

The event, scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 30 at 3814 U.S. Highway 90, Pace in front of State Farm Agency, will formally designate U.S. Highway 90, from Chumuckla Highway to Woodbine Road in Santa Rosa County, in honor of Hall. The Senate and House of Representatives passed the designation and Gov. Rick Scott signed it into law at the request of Sen. Doug Broxson and Rep. Jayer Williamson.

Hall was elected in 2000 and is the first sheriff in Santa Rosa County whom voters elected and re-elected to four terms. Since his tenure, his office was readily accessible to the community, and he was well known for his open-door policy for all.

"He strived to ensure excellence, accountability and integrity in the management and conduct of Sheriff Office programs and policies," a media release states.

Hall is also involved in the community through volunteer service with the Santa Rosa Kids House, United Way of Santa Rosa, Florida Sheriff’s Association, Vets to VA Clinic, Think of NW Florida, and the WWII Veterans to Washington DC Committee.

Scheduled to attend the ceremony are U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz and local leaders along with Broxson and Williamson.

Assisting with arrangements will be the Florida Department of Transportation and the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce.
