HURLBURT FIELD — The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce hosted 134 people lat Friday at its 2017 Annual Awards and Installation Banquet with the theme "The Wild West."
All visitors enjoyed a cocktail reception. Stan Morehead gave teh invocation and Mike Sandler led the Pledge of Allegiance. A special "In memoriam" was presented for Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Member and 1997 Legends Award winner Shirley Brown. Immediately following the tribute, a gourmet dinner was served while guests enjoyed a "Year in Review" slide show.
Notable guests were Kaly Fox, representing state Sen. Doug Broxson’s office, Santa Rosa County Commission Chairman Rob Williamson and retired Santa Rosa County Sheriff Wendell Hall and his wife Karen. President Kristen Loera and Chair Brownwyn Naylor represented the Gulf Breeze Chamber of Commerce and Steve Rhodes, chairman of the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce, also attended.
Honored guests included Jim Parker, president of the chamber in 1973 and Bill Pullum, president of the chamber in 1974 and 1984. Attendees enjoyed hearing Parker share stories about the beginnings of the chamber 41 years ago and accomplishments the community has enjoyed because of the chamber, such as long distance service, the first school, development of Navarre Park and the fishing pond. He also shared how the community had grown from one deputy available in the south end of Santa Rosa County to what it is today.
The membership and community appreciate Parker and Pullum for their vision and hard work. They were presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
