The pedestrian had just left the Circle K store by Milton High School and was attempting to cross Stewart Street. She was stuck by a blue 1998 Ford van.

The driver, David Newman of Pensacola, told authorities he was traveling south on Stewart Street. He stated he entered the turn lane, poised to turn into the Circle K parking lot, but realized he did not need to stop at the store for a drink. He then reentered the southbound traffic lane. He then saw the woman and hit the brakes, but it was too late.

Witnesses said they saw the van pulling out of the Circle K parking lot, entering the turn lane and striking the woman. One bystander said the van was moving very slowly at the time of the accident.

The pedestrian was transported to West Florida Hospital by Lifeguard Ambulance Services in stable condition.

The accident occurred on the driver's birthday. He turned 46.
