Milton radio station reopens
The downtown Milton radio station is back in business. WTKE Sports radio 1490 AM is now playing Fox Sports 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The new owner of the station, Randy Williams said so far the response is unbelievable. He said his show is well received.
“I’m the only local option for sports radio,” said Williams. The other two sports stations in Pensacola and Fort Walton cannot reach Santa Rosa County.
The station was vacant for several years until Williams decided to look into investing in a local radio. “I wanted to invest in a station close to home. I wanted a sports format and there is that void,” he said. Williams said he grew up in Pensacola but his parents moved to Santa Rosa County when he was a teenager. He relocated to Louisville, Kentucky and made his home there for 21 years and came back to town two years ago. Although there is some minor repair to be done to the building, he said he’s already in business.
“I’ll be covering local sports. I’m a sports nut and in Santa Rosa County, sports are important,” he said. His goal is to cover local sports live. He wants to be on the field and be involved in all local sports, including the new UWF football program and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Next on the list are the local morning and afternoon talk shows which will include local news. The morning show will run from 6 until 8 a.m. and the afternoon drive home will be from 4 to 6 p.m.
