Boil Water Notices/Private Well Safety

The Holley-Navarre Water System has issued a precautionary boil water notice for the area along the north side of Highway 98, West of Andorra St. to Falling Leaves Court.  Several businesses and approximately 800 residents in the area were without water due to a break in the water line.  The repair crew has completed the repairs and water service has been restored.

As a precaution, residents and businesses who were without water are being advised that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, bathing, or washing dishes be boiled.  A rolling boil of at least one minute is sufficient.  As an alternative, residents can use bottled water.  Tap water can also be disinfected by adding 8 drops of unscented household bleach to each gallon of water, then mixing the water and allowing it to stand for a minimum of 30 minutes.  If water is still cloudy after 30 minutes, the process should be repeated.

The precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until bacteriological samples show that the water is safe to drink.
