The Humane Society of Pensacola has been awarded a $25,000 grant by Florida Animal Friend Spay/Neuter License Plate Program. The grant will provide for the continuation of a free spay/neuter project originated in 2012 by Emerald Coast Animal Allies, which received the grant award that year.
The Humane Society of Pensacola believes strongly in the importance of spay/neuter for all cats and dogs and began assisting with the program in 2013. The new grant award will allow the continuation of the program through 2014 for Escambia County households making less than $35,000 a year. The eventual goal of the animal welfare organizations involved is zero euthanasia for healthy, adoptable animals in Escambia County.
The public can find out more and sign up for the program by going to the Emerald Coast Animal Allies website at www.ecaafl.org. Volunteers are needed for various weekend sign-up locations in the area. Those interested should call Monie Russo, Humane Society Volunteer Coordinator, at 850 432-4260.
The Humane Society is a no-kill shelter for homeless dogs and cats located at 5 North Q Street, Pensacola, FL 32505. For more information visit our web site at www.humanesocietyofpensacola.org.
