The Florida Highway Patrol says the driver of a car crossed the center line on West Spencerfield Rd., striking a bicyclist then fled on foot, abandoning their car on July 10th.
The accident happened as the two vehicles approached one another on West Spencerfield Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Following the collision, the driver of the car fled on foot while the bicyclist lie on the pavement. The biker was identified as Brandon Charles Villarreal, 19.
Troopers say Villarreal was heading north in the roadway on West Spencerfield Road, approaching Attaway Dr. The driver of the car, a 1997 Honda Civic, was approaching from the south.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the car crossed the centerline, sideswiping the bicyclist. He was knocked to the ground, complainining of injuries. He was checked out by Lifeguard Ambulance personnel and not transported.
Lt. Steve Preston, FHP, says the vehicle crashed into some trees and brush on the side of the roadway and the driver fled on foot. At this time, the driver has not been located, however, Preston notes they have the car impounded and are working an investigation to locate the person responsible.
