East, West to meet in soccer

The Pensacola Sports Association has announced its rosters for the 2012 Subway High School All-Star Soccer Game on Feb. 23.

In all 12 area players have been selected, but they all won’t happen to be teammates.

Milton’s will be represented in the girls game by Lauren Nelson and Emily Kaelin while the boys team will be represented by Tim Dempsey and Kai Green.

Pace will be represented in the boys game by Jacob Breland and Connor Moon, while the girls will be represented by Mary Kathryn Taylor, Lana Chechak, Jessica Amore, Regan Hickman, Allyson McClain and honorary team member Rylee Hart.

The unique twist to this year’s all-star game is the fact that the Pace girls soccer representatives will be playing as members of the West unit.

“We had to do some shuffling around to make sure we have equal representation on both teams,” said Jason Libbert, with the Pensacola Sports Association. “We tried not to do this, but we needed the numbers to make some teams.”

Normally the game features the best seniors from Okaloosa and Santa Rosa counties (East squad) playing against the seniors from Escambia County (West squad).

Libbert mentioned they were possibly looking to do the same thing in the upcoming basketball all-star game.

Head coaches for this year’s event include Rob Simon from Navarre High School for the East Girls and Greg DeVito from Ft. Walton High School for the East Boys.  Jim Bobbitt from Pensacola High School and Charlie Cox from Escambia High School are the West Girls and Boys Coaches.

Both games are set to be played at Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex in Escambia County with the girls kicking things off at 6 p.m. with the boy’s game starting shortly afterwards.

Tickets to the game are only $7.  Fans are encouraged to bring canned good items to donate to the Manna Food Pantry to get a discount on game admission.

Fan events will include the Academy Sports + Outdoors Fan Contest in which four lucky fans will have the opportunity to win up to $200 each in Academy Sports + Outdoors gift cards.
