FWC Report - March 10, 2010

This report represents some events the FWC handled from February 26-March 4; however, it does not include all actions taken by the Division of Law Enforcement.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY

While on patrol of Perdido Wildlife Management Area (WMA), Officer Faris Livesay observed a hunter hunting over bait.  Officer Livesay issued a notice to appear citation for the violation.

FWC officers were on water patrol near Pensacola Pass when they observed two men fishing from a vessel.  The officers conducted a boating safety and fisheries inspection and at the beginning of the inspection, asked if the two fishermen had caught anything. The fishermen said they caught a red drum. Upon inspection and measurement, the red drum was determined to be oversize.  A citation was issued for the violation.

Officer Faris Livesay was on patrol on Highway 29 when he observed a truck moving very slowly in the opposite lane.  The officer slowed to observe the truck and saw a light shining from the truck into the ditch.  When Officer Livesay turned around to stop the vehicle, the vehicle turned around and headed in the opposite direction.  When Officer Livesay finally stopped the truck, he observed shotgun shells but no gun.  A deputy stopped to assist and Officer Livesay walked back down the road to the original site while the deputy stayed with the truck occupants.  Officer Livesay located a 12‑gauge shotgun sticking out of the ground with the barrel driven into the soil.  Upon returning to the truck, confessions were obtained from both subjects.  A search of the truck revealed a cooler containing fresh deer meat.  Officer Livesay contacted Lieutenant Dan Hahr who responded to the scene.  After interviewing the suspects, one suspect admitted that he killed a buck behind his home.  The officers followed the subject to his residence to corroborate his story.  Unfortunately, the suspect’s story was fabricated, and later he confessed to intentionally running the deer over with his truck.  The suspects were charged with attempting to take deer at night with a gun and light, and possession of a freshly killed deer out of season.
