Milton jumps on Jaguars for 4-1 win

Victory never looked so good to Milton as the panthers swept the West Florida Jaguars in Pensacola Friday 4-1.

In the first inning, Milton took bat as senior Tyler Johnson hit a low ball to left field and grabbed first followed by two outs and a hit by catcher Roy Moulder that brought Johnson in for the first score of the night. That was followed by another run bringing Moulder in with two points and two outs in the first.  Senior Brandon Allen followed up, but was unable to get by the Jaguars’ Jimmy Clements throws, and struck out.

West Florida was unable to come out of the first with a run, and West Florida started the second inning with a no score.  An attempted steal by Dustin Harcher proved unsuccessful and he was taken out for the second out.  That was followed by a no-hitter from senior Sean Harris.

The next score wouldn’t come until the top of the fifth for Milton after Paul Young stole second, and later took two bases after a clean hit by Trae Walsingham down the side of the foul line.

After an easy point and two outs on the board, West Florida’s Alex Jones lost grip of the ball, which forced Walsingham to steal two bases for another point.

After the risky play, Devon Whitbey hit a slugger down the right field, but was picked up by West Florida first baseman Kenny Harrison for the out.

Despite only one run for West Florida, starter pitcher Jimmy Clements struck out eight within six innings of play.
