Heaters stop Full Throttle at USSSAA final
The USSSAA U13 championship was an all Santa Rosa County affair.
Saturday saw the Navarre Heaters hold on to defeat Pace’s Full Throttle 10-9 to take the tournament as they went undefeated in the double elimination tournament.
The Heaters took and broke open a 5-5 tie by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning, but the championship wasn’t theirs just yet.
Up 10-5, the Heaters had some defensive issues and two errors later and a single by Full Throttle made the game 10-9.
Jameson Cutchens, who was named the tournament MVP was pulled after working six and two-thirds of an inning for Avery Guyer who recorded the final out and the save.
Despite the offensive outburst in the final inning of the game the U13 Championship was more of a pitchers duel.
The Heaters did not fare so well in pool play prior to the start of Thursday’s double elimination tournament as they went 1-3 including a devastating loss to Cantonment on Wednesday.
But the Heaters turned it on when play mattered and defeated Full Throttle twice over the weekend.
During the regular season Full Throttle and the Heaters are familiar foes with the teams going 1-1.
One game was 10-8, while the other one was a 1-0 affair which took eight innings to decide.
