Milton baseball golf scramble: Milton High School Baseball Boosters 3rd Annual Golf Tournament will be Oct. 17 at Tanglewood Country Club. This three person scramble is set to start at 8 a.m. with lunch after the tournament. The cost is $65 per player or $195 per team and includes golf, lunch, beverage carts, range balls and prizes. Bears for Bears Ride: The Gulf Coast Chapter of ABATE of Florida will hold their annual Bears for Bears Ride in support of the Santa Rosa Kids House. The ride be Oct. 4 with registration getting underway at 9 a.m. at the Home Depot on Highway 90 in Pace. Kickstands will go up for an escorted ride at 11 a.m. Cost is $10 per person and one article of new clothing for kids. For more information call 324-7529 or e-mail gcabatepres@bellsouth.net
Rotary 5K: The Milton Rotary Club will hold its 3rd Annual 5K on Oct. 24 along the Blackwater Heritage State Trail. The run to benefit education scholarships and programs sponsored by Milton Rotary Club. Registration is $20 for adults and $15 for children through Oct. 23 and will be $25 for adults and $20 for children the day of the race. Race time is 9 a.m. and busses will begin loading at 8 a.m. at Milton City Hall. An after party with food and drink will be at Blackwater Bistro following the race. Early packet pickup will be Oct. 23 at Blackwater Bistro from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Garcon Point Bridge Run: The Santa Rosa Education Foundation and Mediacom Communications will hold their 4.8 mile run/walk across the Garcon Point Bridge on Saturday, Oct. 17th, at 7:30 a.m. Participants will be treated to hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks during the post race awards ceremony. Advance registration is encouraged. Entry fees are $20 for children under 18 and $25 for adults. After October 13th, all registration fees are $30. Riverwalk Run: Sign up now to participate in the Riverwalk Run, Oct. 3 starting at 4 p.m. in downtown Milton. The 5K course takes participants through historic parts of the city, then continues on a section of the Blackwater Heritage State Trail and finally across the Riverwalk Boardwalk towards the finish line in downtown Milton. All participants must be able to complete 3.1 miles within one hour since the course will open to traffic at 5 p.m. Registration is available through Active.com and can be accessed through the City of Milton Parks & Recreation website at www.cityofmiltonpr.nexo.com In addition, registration forms can be downloaded from the website or can be picked up at the Milton Community Center, 5629 Byrom St., Milton, FL. The cost to register is $15 from now until noon on Oct. 2 and $20 on the day of the race. Additional fees apply online. Packet pickup is scheduled for October 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Milton Community Center and on Oct. 3 from 2 to 3 p.m. at race site in downtown Milton. Tiger Trot 5K/10K: Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida is now accepting registrations for the Tiger Trot 5K/10K race. The event will be held on Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. beginning at Midway Fire Station located at 1322 College Parkway in Gulf Breeze. The scenic course takes participants through residential areas and around Tiger Point Golf Club. The 10K course adds a trip along Bay Street and Santa Rosa Sound. Registration before Oct. 15 is $20 for 5K and $22 for 10K. Registration closing date is Oct. 15. Late race-day registration is $23 for 5K and $25 for 10K. Race packet pickup is available Oct. 16 from 4-6 p.m. at Running Wild in Pensacola and on race day from from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at Midway Fire Station in Gulf Breeze. Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour: Milton junior golfers ages 12-18 are invited to compete in the AJGT Tchefuncta Junior Classic at Tchefuncta Country Club in Covington, Louisiana on the weekend of Oct. 17th-18th. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and hosted by the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour. The tournament registration deadline is Saturday, Oct. 3rd at 6:00 P.M. In Hot Pursuit 5K - The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Second Annual ‘In Hot Pursuit’ 5K will be held Oct. 10 on Pensacola Beach. This year, all proceeds from the race will go to support the Florida Sheriff’s Association Youth Ranches, an organization dedicated to the prevention of juvenile delinquency and the production of strong, lawful and productive citizens for our community. There will be a fun beach course, great prizes, red beans and rice at the finish and medals for the winners. The race will start at 8:00 am near the Pavilion on Pensacola Beach. Orthopedic exams: The Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is now providing free orthopaedic exams and assessments to high school and collegiate athletes on Saturday mornings. The “Saturday Morning Athletic Training Room” is available to any student athlete and will be held every Saturday beginning September 5, 2009 and operating through the end of the Football season. Students may check-in from 8-9 a.m. in the Andrews Institute Rehabilitation center in Suite 101 on the Andrews Institute campus; located at 1040 Gulf Breeze Parkway in Gulf Breeze, Fla. The exams are provided on a walk-in basis and the initial assessment is done free of charge. The exams are available to any student athlete in the Gulf Coast area including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
