Sports Sideline - Aug. 23, 2008

 

Wildlife Expo 2008: Wildlife Expo 2008 will be held at the Pensacola Junior College’s Milton Campus Aug. 23 from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be six session offered during the day, and participants will have their pick of attending one of three seminars offered during each session.

Seminar topics include food plot preparation and blends; field judging white-tailed deer; managing native vegetation for wildlife; keeping deer on your property; using game cameras properly; turkey hunting for beginners; and cooking wild game. Demonstrations also will be available on tree stand safety and archery. A complete list of topics for the Wildlife Expo can be found online at Wildlife Expo 2008.

 

The first annual Forgione Memorial Poker Run will be held Aug. 23 in Ft. Walton Beach. Registration for this poker run to benefit the Deputy Sheriff Anthony Forgione Benefit Account will be held at Honda of Ft. Walton Beach with the first bike out at 10 a.m. and the last bike out by 1:30 p.m.

Last bike in at the block is set for 4 p.m. with awards, raffle, and prizes to be given away at 4:30 p.m.

There will also be a bike show at Ft. Walton Beach Honda. For more information call 305-0384.

 

Panther Passes: Panther Passes are currently on sale for $200. This pass is for all regular season games held at Milton High School. This pass will entitle the bearer and spouse and immediate family access to the games. Immediate family being parents and their school age children living under one roof. The reserved seats are on sale for $42. This includes all home varsity football games as well as all 9th and JV home games. Any questions call the school at 983-5600. 

 

Pace Football Tickets and Patriot Passes: Pace High School has announced ticket prices this year will be $7 per person at the gate. Advanced tickets will be sold for home games at $6 each and can be purchased at the athletic office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, while ticket sales on Friday will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Super Patriot Passes this season are $200 and will be good for any regular season home varsity and junior varsity contests. Tickets are good for the purchasers and immediate family under the same roof. Any questions you are asked to call the Pace Athletic Office at 995-3609.

 

East Milton Youth Association: A cheerleading coach is needed for 11-12 year old age group at East Milton Youth Association. The individual must have cheerleading experience. Please call 723-7493 if interested.

 

Gospel Projects Youth Athletic Club Soccer: Soccer registration at GPYAC runs through Aug. 23rd.  You may register at the office of Santa Rosa Christian School Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to Noon.  The registration fee is $80 for the first child and $70 for each additional child.  There will be co-ed leagues for children ages 31/2 through league age 12. Uniforms are provided to the children through sponsorships. People desiring to coach should contact Tod Brainard at 623-4671. All volunteer coaches will be screened through background checks. Milton Take Down Club: Youth wrestling instruction is being held every Monday and Thursday at Milton High School from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. under the direction of four-time national champion Rob Hazewinkle. Back to School Dance: The East Milton Youth Association will hold a back to school dance Aug. 29 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The dance is for kids grade six through eight. The event will be held in the East Milton Park Gym and the cost is $5 per person.

 

Bowling League Sign-ups: Tuesday Night Church Mixed Bowling League is taking sign-ups. League will start Sept. 2 and bowl every Tuesday at 7 p.m. So far this league has donated over $2,600 to local charities since it started in Jan. 2006. For more information call 623-6807 or 501-4541.

 

Open mat wrestling: Any individual who would like to take advantage of an open mat for wrestling can do so at Milton High School every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. You must have an AAU or USA wrestling card.

 

Garcon Point Bridge Run: The Santa Rosa Education Foundation is partnering with Mediacom to announce its inaugural “Connecting Education in Santa Rosa County” Garcon Point Bridge Run. The special event for children and adults supports programs like Take Stock in Children scholarships, teacher grants, Little Red Schoolhouse Teacher Supply Depot, and recognition of teachers and student countywide.

The five-mile run-walk will be Sept. 6 at 7:30 a.m. A general entry fee is $15 for children and $20 for adults. Registration is available on-line at active.com or you can print a registration form at www.santarosa.k12.fl.us/sref

 

Youth Volleyball: A youth volleyball league is being formed to introduce volleyball skills and build team concepts at Pace High School. The league will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday’s from Aug. 30 to Oct. 25. The cost of the league is $55 and registration will be Aug. 21 from 7 to 8 a.m., Aug. 22, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. For more information call 748-6008 or 995-0813.

 

Futbol Club of Santa Rosa Fall Soccer Registration: Registration is currently ongoing for the fall recreational season, online registration is available at the FCSR website www.fcsantarosa.com. Registration fees range from $100 to $125, there is an additional fee for team jersey.  Individuals interested in coaching or assisting can sign up on the volunteer page while registering their child or email vicepresident@fcsantarosa.com.   More information on the recreational and select soccer programs is available on the club website.

 

Adult softball registration: The City of Milton is seeking church, co-ed and open adult softball teams for the 2008 fall season. Teams can register from noon to 8 p.m. weekdays at the Milton Community Center until Aug. 22.

Registration is $350 and the season beings Sept. 8 with approximately 20 games on the schedule.

Pace Library Sports Raffle: Friends of the Pace Library will be raffling off various sports items to add a children’s activity room to the Pace Library.

Some of the items you could win include a Eli Manning signed Giants football, an Emmitt Smith signed Cowboys helmet, a Travis Fryman signed baseball, Boo Weekley signed hat and picture, Haley Millsaps signed hat and picture, Danny Wuerffel signed mini-helmets, and much more.

Ticket sales are underway for $10 each or six for $50. The raffle ends Nov. 29.

Soccer Director Needed: The East Milton Youth Association is looking for a qualified soccer director.

Winter Senior’s Bowling League: Oops Alley is taking sign-ups for a Winter Senior’s League. The league will begin play on Sept. 4 at 9:30 a.m.

The league will last 15 weeks with a league cost of $8 per person per week.

Charity Golf Tournament: Area firefighters and others are hosting the Great Balls of Fire Charity Golf Tournament at Scenic Hills Country Club on Sept. 12. This tournament will benefit the American Lung Association and will get underway with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Sponsorships are available and the cost is $85 a player or $320 a foursome. Golf for Globe: Globe International is looking for sponsors and players for it’s first annual golf tournament on Sept. 26 at the Lost Key Golf Club. The tournament features a 4-person scramble and an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Tournament entry includes lunch, goody bags, cart and green fees, contests and door prizes. Globe International is a faith-based organization that provides services to missionaries and humanitarian aid programs around the world. For more information or to register, call 453-3453.
