Speak Out - March 13, 2010

Wednesday, 7:43 p.m.

I am calling regarding the Toyota issue with accelerators. I have an American made car and this same thing has happened to me twice in the last three years. The first time it happened on Avalon Blvd., and I had to hit the brakes over and over. The second time it was so bad I got off the road and had to call road side assistance to come and get the car because it was too dangerous to drive. My car was an American made car, well made and expensive. So this is not only a Toyota thing. It is very scary since you have no warning.

Wednesday, 1:39 p.m.

Hey this is Barbara. I just want to say something about the whole Black History Month thing. They didn’t publish anything about white history month either. And there are a couple of guys who constantly write long letters who I feel need to find something else to do.

Wednesday, 1:28 p.m.

Yeah, this is George and this pertains to Raymond who usually writes in about racism or how they were neglected and what now. Of all the subscribers to the Press Gazette and all the people who call in to speak out he is the only one who has brought up anything to do with racism. I think it is time he lays it to rest.

Tuesday, 8 p.m.

Yes, this is Red from Milton. I would like to know if Hugo Chaves owns the 7-Eleven markets here? Thank you.

Editor’s note: The Tom Thumb stores in the area are owned by the Kroger Corporation based out of Nashville. They have a contract to use Citgo gasoline. Citgo Corporation is a company based out of Venezuela, which is a nation led by one Hugo Chaves.

Tuesday, 8:39 a.m.

This is Marie. It is very sad about what happened to the young man from Brewton who died. I have lived here a long time and have heard you never see black people in Jay. When I have been there I have never seen any, but I have never seen any in Munson, at Central, and you hardly see any in Allentown either. One time my grandson was stranded at Central after there was a mistake with what bus he got on. Everybody was afraid about the fact he was there and told me that it was no good.

Tuesday, 8:32 a.m.

Good morning my name is Jewel. I have Mediacom cable and I expect to be able to view the channels I pay for. Recently several of my channels go black for several hours and the voices are garbled. For an example channel 53, which is Fox News, has been off since 4 a.m. today. Mediacom, what’s up?

Monday, 2:48 p.m.

This is George. The AARP Tax Aid program for 2009 Taxes is underway. This is a free tax preparation service with e-file in Santa Rosa County.  This service is offered at the Avalon Fire Station on Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the Milton Library from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. AARP membership is not a requirement to take advantage of this free service.
