North Willing St. Closure

North Willing Street will be closed on Sept. 6 – Sept. 7 for resurfacing work. According to Milton City Manager Brian Watkins North Willing will reopen on Sept. 8.

 

Democrats Monthly Yard Sale

The Santa Rosa County Democrats Monthly Yard Sale will be held Sept., from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., at its local headquarters on Stewart Street in Milton. Items for sale will include toys, stuffed animals, books, book shelves, kitchen items, glassware, tools, technology, and many miscellaneous items.  In addition, there will be furniture and garden equipment for sale.  For information on delivery of items for donation, call DEC Headquarters from 10 a.m. - noon, Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, 623-2345, or contact 936-8704, Monday - Saturday.

 

East Milton MSBU Meeting

The East Milton Fire Department will have a MSBU Meeting on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. at the fire station on Ward Basin Road.

 

Learn English with ESOL Class

Pensacola State College offers English for Speakers of Other Languages classes at its Pensacola and Warrington campuses.

ESOL classes provide instruction in everyday survival skills and basic knowledge of English reading, writing and speaking.

Republican Club of Santa Rosa County to Meet

The Community Redevelopment Agency will meet Sept. 13 at 4:45 p.m. in the Milton City Council Chambers.

The Milton City Council will meet in regular session on Sept. 13 at 5 p.m. in the Milton City Council Chambers.

Milton Administration Committee will meet on Sept. 15 at 8 a.m. in Conference Room B at Milton City Hall.

Milton Ordinance Review Committee will meet Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. in Conference Room B at Milton City Hall.

City of Milton Public Works Committee will meet Sept. 22 at 8 a.m. in Conference Room B at Milton City Hall.

City of Milton Parks and Recreation Committee will meet Sept. 26 at 8:30 a.m. in Conference Room B at Milton City Hall.

Call to artists

The Santa Rosa Art Association invites artists to participate in 10th Art Fest, Oct. 15, at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium in Milton. The show start at 9 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m.  This is a juried show. Deadline for application is Sept. 15, 2011. Ladies show us your bras!

Santa Rosa Clean Community System is calling on ladies to "show us their bras" for the upcoming THINKIN' PINK event, which will benefit American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Research and Local Patient Services, being hosted by the Santa Rosa Clean Community System, Oct. 29.  The event will be from  10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Green-Up Santa Rosa Nursery on Park Ave. in Milton and will be part of the 8th Annual Beaches to Woodlands Tour. In conjunction with the THINKIN' PINK event, there will be a Bra Decorating Contest. There is an Entry Fee of $10 for each bra entered.  Deadline for entry is Oct. 21. Health fair offers free screenings and massages

Pensacola State College partners with the Santa Rosa Medical Center and Sacred Heart Health System to present Health Fair 2011. The event is 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sept. 15 at the L.I.F.E. Center/Sports Complex, Building 4000, on the Milton campus. All health screenings are free and include: 5-Panel cholesterol screening (requires 10-hour fast); diabetes screening; body mass index; bone density; stroke risk analysis; pulmonary function test; oxygen saturation assessment; hearing assessment; height/weight; smoking cessation; and blood pressure.

Pensacola State Massage Therapy students are providing 10-minute chair massages, and Northwest Florida Blood Services is accepting blood donations. For more information, contact Butch Branch at 484-4491, bbranch@pensacolastate.edu.

 

A Call to Artists and Craftspeople

Santa’s Workshop Crafts Fair, sponsored by the Navarre Garden Club, will be setting up at the Navarre Conference Center on Highway  98 on Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

We are expecting vendors of all sorts, both inside and outside coming from near and far. Everyone can put a good sized dent in their Christmas shopping list, with unique items sold in the various booths.

Ye Old Bake Shoppe will be serving up homemade cakes, pies and goodies for the Thanksgiving holidays following soon after. Don’t miss your opportunity to have a booth in this gala event.  Inside booths are 10’x5, and rent for $40.- (6’ table available for an additional $5). An outside space will accommodate a 10’ x 10’tent. space is limited so send your application in soon.

Al-Anon Meetings

Al-Anon meets every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Woodbine United Methodist Church in the portable located behind the church. They also have a Spanish meeting at St. Rose of Lima Church every Friday at 10 a.m. in Room 2 of the Educational Building. Al-Anon is a support group for family members of people who have alcohol abuse issues.

 

Alzheimer’s Family Services offers Alzheimer’s support group

Alzheimer's Family Services provides monthly support groups for family members or friends coping with a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. A support group will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Aug. 11 at the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce, located at 5247 Stewart St. The support group is free but registration is required to attend, and respite care is available in most locations.

 

New Beginnings Preschool Enrollment

New Beginnings Preschool of Pace Presbyterian Church is still accepting enrollment for the fall. We have a few 3 and 4 year old spots still available. Navarre Arts Association Seeking Artists for Festival

The Greater Navarre Beach Arts Association has issued a call for artists and crafters for the Navarre Fall Arts Festival 2011, scheduled for Oct. 8 and 9, in the Navarre Park adjacent to the Navarre Visitor’s Information Center.

Deadline for applications is Sept. 1, however with only 50 booth spaces available, acceptance will be on a “first come” basis.  There are also 10 food vendor spaces and 10 local business spaces.

Team Registration Open For Annual Fire Truck Pull

 The Ronald McDonald House will host their annual Fire Truck Pull competition on Oct. 1 at Seville Quarter in downtown Pensacola.  Teams of 20 people will compete to pull a fire truck 50 feet in the least amount of time.  Groups, clubs, or businesses who are interested in competing can contact the Ronald McDonald House for fundraising and registration materials.  Other sponsorship opportunities are available.  This is a fun event each year and can be a great team building activity.
