Cement truck swerves, rolls over in ditch
NAVARRE — Traffic was slowed around 8 a.m. Thursday after a cement truck rolled into a ditch around off of State Road 87.
According to a release by Florida Highway Patrol, a car driven by 44-year-old Rene Pearson of Navarre had stopped after another vehicle near Wells Beach Road pulled in front of her and attempted to make a left turn.
Ceylon Brown, 44, of Pensacola was unable to stop in time to not hit Pearson's 1990 Subaru four-door car, the release said.
To avoid hitting the vehicle, Brown braked and steered right causing the front of his 2006 Terx Mixer to hit the rear of Pearson's car and then roll over into a ditch on southbound shoulder of State Road 87
The cement truck landed on its right side, the release said.
Initially, first responders were told the driver of the truck was trapped, but the man was unscathed and walking around when they arrived on scene, said Holley-Navarre Fire Chief Ron Norton.
Norton said there was little damage to the truck, with just the cabin windows busted out. He added that no cement was spilled during the wreck.
Pearson's car sustained about $500 in damage. The cement truck had about $15,000.
Brown was charged with careless driving. Neither driver had injuries, the release said.
According to Norton, crews were working late Thursday morning to get the truck out of the ditch using a crane.
