Car, Truck & Bike Show/ Fish Fry Fundraiser today

There is a Car, Truck & Bike Show/Fish Fry - Nancy Cook Memorial today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Heritage Plaza, 5410 Hwy. 90 in Pea Ridge. Nichol’s Seafood will provide Mullet/Catfish Plates for $7. To register your vehicle or pre-order Fish for pick-up or delivery please contact Cinnamon Holderman at 232-8191 or Kevin Hobbs at 324-5957. Sponsor is Lou Sobh’s Milton Chevrolet. ALL proceeds will benefit the Emerald Coast Honor Flight. Come on out and support this special event!

 

PTA Fall Festival

Bagdad Elementary School will be having its PTA Fall Festival. And everyone is invited! It will be at Bagdad Ball Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 14th. There will be lots of food and games.  Tickets will be for sale on site. Please come and support our school!

 

Healthy Start Coalition meeting

The Healthy Start Coalition of Santa Rosa County, Inc., will have a regular meeting on Monday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. at the Berryhill Administrative Complex, 6751 Berryhill Street, Milton. All meetings are open to the public. For further information, contact the Healthy Start Coalition at 626-6751.

 

City of Milton meetings

• The City of Milton’s Computer Committee will meet on Monday, Nov. 9 at 8 a.m. in Conference Room B at City Hall, 6738 Dixon Street.

• Milton’s City Council will meet in Regular Session on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 6738 Dixon Street.

• Milton’s Physical Plant and Insurance Committee will meet on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 8 a.m. in Conference Room B of City Hall, 6738 Dixon Street.

• Milton’s Historic Preservation Board is scheduled to meet on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 6738 Dixon Street.

Morning Glory meeting scheduled

The Morning Glory Circle of the Milton Garden Club will have their monthly meeting Thursday, Nov. 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the Milton Garden Center, located at 5256 Alabama Street, Milton. Guests are welcome! Please call Lynn at 675-6744 for additional information.

 

Education Committee to meet

The Education Committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday, November 12, 2009, at 3:30 p.m. at Hobbs Middle School, 5317 Glover Lane, Milton.

Dragonfly to hold reception for Artist, Ruth Goldsborough

Milton's Dragonfly Gallery is now showcasing the work of artist Ruth Goldsborough through Nov. 14. Portraits, charcoal sketches and pencil drawings along with oil paintings will be displayed during this exhibit. A closing reception and celebration of the artist’s 92nd birthday is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 14. Goldsborough also will teach a portrait art class from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov 16 and 17 and a landscape class on Nov. 18 at the gallery. Cost will be $50 per day. Participants may take one or all three classes. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Do call the gallery at 981-1100.

Goldsborough taught herself to draw and paint as a child and hasn’t stopped since. She specializes in commissioned portraits. Now residing in Hendersonville, NC, Goldsborough has lived and painted all over the country. She lived in Santa Rosa County for several years and still has family in the area.

The Dragonfly Gallery, at 5188 Escambia St. in historic downtown Milton, is a mission of the Santa Rosa Arts and Culture Foundation. It is a juried gallery of local artists. Gold Wing Road Riders to meet

The Gold Wing Road Riders Milton Chapter will hold their monthly social on Tuesday, November 10 at 6 p.m. and to eat at 7 p.m. at the Reggie’s Seafood & Bar-B-Que on Highway 90 in East Milton. Everyone is welcome and for more information, call 623-1935.

 

Holiday Garbage Routes

City Hall will be closed to allow employees to observe the Veteran’s Day holiday on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Garbage routes will be as follows: Monday & Tuesday route pick-up is the same as scheduled. Thursday & Friday route pickup will be as scheduled. City Hall’s Public Works desk and accounting window will resume operation on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 a.m. All public works emergencies will be handled as for regular weekends by calling 983-5400.

 

SBDC at UWF offers  “Business Planning for Success” Workshop

The Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida, 401 E Chase Street, Ste. 100, Pensacola, is holding its “Business Planning for Success” Workshop on Tuesday evening, Nov. 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. Attendees will discover the basics of writing a business plan, and will learn how a business plan impacts the lending decision and the success of a business. The fee for attending this workshop is $40 for the public and free for students and faculty members of the University of West Florida who present a Nautilus card. Since our funding agency requires a minimum number of attendees, we cancel workshops that don’t meet these requirements. Pre-Registration is strongly recommended. Also “Starting a Business” will be offered on Wednesday morning, November 18 from 9 a.m. to noon. Attendees will learn about taxation, financing, insurance, and legal forms of business. Attendance fee is $35 for the public and students, faculty members of the University of West Florida who present a Nautilus card. Pre-registration is strongly recommended.
