TEAM Santa Rosa and UWF Announce Summer Workshop

TEAM Santa Rosa and the University of West Florida’s Career Services department have joined forces to present an employer workshop on July 22.  The workshop is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the TEAM Santa Rosa office located at 6491 Caroline Street, Suite 4, in Milton. The workshop will focus on methods for organizations to relieve workload and provide experience to students, while giving the business the benefit of having a bird’s eye view of how a potential permanent employee will perform. Topics to be explored include: developing internships and cooperative education programs, conducting on-campus interviews, branding an organization, and utilizing JasonQuest, the UWF online job posting system.

An analysis of appropriate curriculum to meet workforce needs will also be covered. Attention will also be paid to showing how employers can better understand the process of connecting students and graduate students to their workforce and business needs. The workshop will involve activities to assist employers in discovering the degree and certification programs from which to recruit potential new hires.

Navarre Patriots Meeting

Dr. Leland Baker will speak about U.S. Government Bankruptcy: Facts for Citizens Without Finance Degrees July 14 at the meeting of the Navarre Patriots. He is also the author of “Tea Party Revival: The Conscience of a Conservative Reborn.”

18th Annual Photo Benefit Show

Photographic art lovers don't want to miss the 18th annual Power of Photography show and product expo in Pensacola, July 15-17.  Over 100 photographers from Florida and Alabama are competing for over $2,000 in prizes in a juried art show that will be the highlight of downtown's midsummer Gallery Night Weekend.

Free to the public, the event is a benefit for ARC Gateway.  It includes a show of the 300 best POP entries, a member's photo show, silent auctions, drawings, and product demonstrations.  Coordinated by the Wide Angle Photo Club, last year's popular show had over 1,500 visitors.

POP 2011 will occur at The Wright Place, 6 E. Wright Street, downtown Pensacola on Friday, 10 a.m. -  9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon -  4 p.m.  For information, see the club's website at www.wideanglephotoclub.org.

 

Call for Arts & Craft Vendors for 2011 Art & Wine Festival

The Pensacola Beach Chamber of Commerce is calling for arts and craft vendors to submit applications for the 2011 Art & Wine Festival being held October 1 & 2, 2011 in Pensacola Beach, Florida.  The festival will take place from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Application forms can be downloaded from www.pensacolabeachchamber.com.  Photos of arts and craft items must be submitted with the application, or include directions to a web site where the artwork items can be viewed.    Application deadline is August 15, 2011.  All entries are $50.00 for a 10 x 10 tent space.

Sen. Evers to hold town hall meeting in Jay

Sen. Greg Evers is setting up meetings in the area to discuss redistricting in Florida. The purpose of holding these hearings is to empower us, as legislators, with the information we need in order to do what is right for the citizens of Florida. Evers will meet with constituents in Jay from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on July 15 at the Jay Community Center on Booker Lane.

Santa Rosa TDC

There will be two openings on the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council for the 2012 year which begins on Oct. 1, 2011. If you are interested in serving on this Board please supply the following information to the Tourist Development Council by Sept. 1, 2011. Tourism experience, knowledge and background while also demonstrate involvement at the committee level. You must be involved in a tourist related industry.

Saving Emerald Coast Wildlife

Susan Leveille and a special guest will tell us about the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge July 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the Navarre Library, 8484 James M. Harvell Road. Leveille is the Director of Education for the refuge.

The Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge was founded in 1994. Since then it has grown exponentially. Education, conservation and rehabilitation for the welfare of Florida’s natural fauna is the mission of the refuge which provides state of the art wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and environmental education outreach to five counties in Northwest Florida.

The program is part of the free Lore, Legends and Learning series at the Library sponsored by the Friends of the Navarre Library. The program is held on the last Tuesday of each month from January through October, presenting a variety of topics to the public. Reservations are not required.

TAC at UWF Presents “How to do Business With Gulf Power Company”

The Florida Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), located at 401 E. Registration is Open for Free Voluntary Pre-K for Fall 2011

Registration is open for free Voluntary Pre K (VPK) for the 2011-2012 school year that begins August 22, 2011.

Children with a birth date between Sept. 2, 2006 and Sept. 1, 2007 are eligible for this free program offered by the State of Florida through the Early Learning Coalition of Escambia County. Parents may select from more than 100 program locations in Escambia County.

The documents needed for VPK enrollment are:  the child’s birth certificate or immunization record, the parent/guardian valid photo ID, and proof of residency (a utility bill or lease agreement).

Seniors Open House and Resource Fair

Holley Navarre Seniors Association will host an Open House and Resource Fair on Saturday, July 16 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.  This free event is open to the public.  Santa Rosa Medical Center will provide free health screenings.  This will be a fun and informative event with medical and retail vendors, education segments including information on the Davinci Robot, acupuncture, magnet therapy, door prizes, and food.  For more information, call 936-1644.

 

Blood donors are needed

Northwest Florida Blood Services announces elevated need for blood types: B Negative, O Negative, O Positive and A Negative.  Blood donors with any of these types are asked to help build the supply of blood needed for patients in local hospitals. Currently, there is an increased need for these blood types. Blood donors are asked to come to the centers located Pensacola at 1999 East Nine Mile Road from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. and 2209 N. 9th Avenue from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. In Ft. Walton Beach at 405NE Racetrack Road from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Eligibility requirements: 16 years old with parental consent, weigh 110 pounds, picture ID and be in good health. Actual draw time is 5 to 7 minutes. Donors receive a wellness check, free cholesterol screening and will learn blood type.

Green-Up Extends Crepe Myrtle Sale

Green-Up Santa Rosa has announced it will extend its Annual Crepe Myrtle Sale through the end of July. Crepe Myrtles are considered one of the hardiest, drought tolerent trees throughout the south. They bloom all summer and grow fast. One-gallon plants are $5.99, three-gallon plants are $9.99 and seven-gallon plants are $19.99. Colors include red, pink, white and lavender.

Green-Up is a program of the Santa Rosa Clean Community System and proceeds go toward public plantings within the community. Currently, they are working on the new innovation recycling station in Milton and the beautification of a new recycling drop site in Pace. Choral Society of Pensacola Announces Auditions

The  Choral Society of Pensacola – Northwest  Florida’s premier symphonic  chorus – will hold auditions for new singers on Saturday, August 6, 2011  in Room 801 of the Pensacola State College Ashmore Fine Arts  Auditorium, 1000   College Blvd. Auditions will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

 Choral  Society Artistic Director, Xiaolun Chen, will conduct the auditions,  which take place in a very relaxed and non-threatening atmosphere.

SBDC at UWF Presents “Starting a Business”

 The Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida (401 E. Chase Street, Suite 100, Pensacola) is presenting “Starting a Business” on Thursday morning, July 14, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.  Attendees will learn about taxation, financing, insurance, and legal forms of business. Attendance fee is $35 for the public and free for students and faculty members of the University of West Florida who present a Nautilus card.  Since our funding agency requires a minimum number of attendees, we cancel workshops that don’t meet these requirements.  Pre-registration is strongly recommended.  Call to register. SBDC workshops, seminars, and conferences provide practical, up-to-date information on business topics ranging from the basics to more advanced business management skills. Instructors include SBDC Certified Business Analysts, faculty from higher education, government experts, and private-sector professionals.

Holley-Navarre Seniors Rummage Sale

Holley Navarre Seniors will host an indoor rummage sale July 30, from 7:30 a.m. -  noon.  We will be offering indoor space to those who want to sell their own items for $20 per table.  We will also accept donations of re-usable, undamaged items to sell with the proceeds going to support the Senior Center.  You may sign up for space or drop off donations at the EH Pullum Senior Center, 8476 Gordon Goodin Lane (across from Navarre Library) Monday through Friday from 9 am to noon.  Payment is required to reserve space.  For more information call 936-1644.
