12-year-old catches self, shed on fire
NAVARRE — A 12-year-old girl playing with gasoline and fire in a shed outside her home on Van Diviere Lane on Wednesday evening received severe burns.
According to Holley-Navarre Fire Department Chief Ron Norton, the girl received second degree burns on her right arm and third degree burns on her right leg after the shed caught fire around 5 p.m.
The girl's parents were not home at the time, but told Norton it was unlike her to be playing with fire.
"They seemed both worried and mad," Norton said. "They said it was out of character for her to be doing that."
The shed received minor damages, but some equipment inside was damaged. Norton estimated the cost of the damages at $1,000.
The girl was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
