School Board releases proposed $285-million budget
Today the Santa Rosa County School's released their tentative budget for the upcoming 2008-09 school year.

According to the budget summary, there are still some items not budgeted at this point. One of those being any increase in health insurance (the new health insurance year begins Jan. 2009). They have included the same Board contribution as fiscal year 2007-08. Currently, from Operating, the Board is contributing approximately. $12,000,000 to employees health insurance.
After budget cuts from the state last school year the base student allocation for the district was $4,079.74 they are currently projecting to allocate $3,971.74 or 2.65% less per student while the full time enrollees are expected to increase by 229 students this upcoming school year.
State and local funding expenditures are also expected to go down 2.38 percent as the funding this year will fall from $6,734.65 to $6,574.28.
During the past two school years the estimated state budget cuts experience by the Santa Rosa County School districts is $10.235-million.
