Santa Rosa Medical Center holding Senior Expo Health Fair
The Santa Rosa Medical Center is holding its 12th annual Retired and Senior Volunteer Program’s Senior Expo Health Fair Thursday in order to offer a number of free health services to local seniors.
The RSVP expo will have 55 vendors on hand, including free health screening vendors who can answer any health-related questions.
SRMC spokesman Alita Hoodless said the event draws in roughly 300-500 people every year at the Milton Community Center.
“We hold this event to make the community aware of what resources we have here in Santa Rosa County,” Hoodless said.
All of those services will be offered free of charge to all senior citizens, which include cholesterol screenings, blood pressure screenings, osteoporosis checks and diabetes checks just to name a few.
There will also be several physicians on hand if questions or concerns arise for seniors. In past expos, Hoodless said physicians find problems with seniors that they didn’t know they had.
“We had a man several years ago receive a PSA scan and found out they had cancer,” Hoodless said.
Because of the patient’s early detection, the man now lives cancer free according to the SRMC representative.
Since the program is free, many take advantage of it, and Hoodless said she encourages everyone who attends to take advantage of all the vendors have to offer.
“Most people want to find out about their health, and this is a good opportunity for them to do so,” Hoodless said.
