Incident results in tragic death

19 year-old woman shoots herself

A 19-year-old Milton woman is dead following a disturbance Wednesday on Tom Sawyer Road.
Chantae Faulk allegedly succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her chest after being transported to Sacred Heart Hospital according to Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Sgt. Scott Haines.
Haines stated that around 1:15 deputies were dispatched to 5433 Tom Sawyer Road in reference to a female suspect shooting into a residence.
Witness accounts reported that Faulk discharged five to six rounds into the front door and window of the residence.
No one was injuried, but the residents immediately contacted 911.
As deputies arrived they observed Faulk sitting on the front porch of the residence and still armed with a handgun.
Faulk was threatening to kill herself and kept pointing the gun at herself.
Deputies immediately called for crisis negotiators and the SWAT Team in an attempt to resolved the situation peacefully, according to Haines.
Haines went on to say that while deputies were trying to talk to Faulk she was yelling at them to “kill her”, as she continued to point the firearm at herself.
Deputies successfully evacuated the three individuals inside the home to safety via the rear door.
Faulk then discharged two more rounds while the deputies were present, but the shots were not fired towards the deputies or any other person.
A few moments later Faulk held the firearm to her chest and shot herself before the negotiators and SWAT were able to arrive.
Investigators are currently working on the case to determine what transpired prior to the incident, and why the suspect came to the house and opened fire.
As of press time, Sgt. Haines had no further information on the investigation.

I'm glad to see the typos corrected. Perhaps running the articles through a simple spell-check before publishing would prevent such errors in the future?

Honestly, does anybody proofread articles before they are posted online? I find it hard to believe that such an article passes as acceptable journalism. I count as least two typos. 1. Witness accounts report that Faulk reported discharged five to six rounds into the front door and window of the residence. TYPO reported rather than reportedly 2. Deputies immediately called or crisis negotiators and the SWAT Team in an attempt to resolved the situation peacefully, according to Haines. TYPO or rather than on I would expect a higher quality of journalism than this article exhibits from the Santa Rosa Press Gazette.
