Suspect transported to Santa Rosa on burglary charges
A Pensacola man entered the Santa Rosa County Jail last Friday after completing charges at Escambia County Jail stemming from a string of burglaries across Santa Rosa and Escambia counties in the summer of 2009.
Richard Beverly, 20, was transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail Friday and charged with property damage of $1,000 or more, burglary of a dwelling or structure and larceny in reference to a burglary of a formal wear store in Santa Rosa County.
According to the arrest report, back in June of 2009, Gent’s Formal Wear off of Highway 90 in Pace was burglarized and about 90 dresses and men’s wear items were taken from the store. The front glass of the door had been shattered, and the cash register and credit card machine were seized. The owner, Larry Green, estimated the cost of the damage to be $26,323. Green noted that he had similar burglaries at his store in Pensacola.
On July 27, 2009, Latia Dennis turned herself into officers admitting that she and four other people had helped break into the formal wear store in Pace.
According to the police report, Dennis admitted driving to the formal wear store, but denied being a part of the burglary other than picking up Beverly after the clothing had been stolen and driving to a disclosed location.
Three days after Dennis’ statement, 23 of the formal wear dresses were recovered from the residence of Maurice Williams. The total value of the dresses was estimated to be $6,150.
Green said the dresses that were recovered had extensive damage done to them and looked to have been worn extensively stating they could not be resold.
That same day, an interview was conducted with Kendrick Barren, one of the suspects, who said she had driven Beverly and another suspect to the store in Pace.
Barren admitted that everyone, including herself, went into the store and stole clothing after Dennis, who Barren said attempted to break the front door of the building with a BB gun. After numerous attempts to break the door with the gun, Barren reportedly kicked in the door and the group entered the store.
The use of a BB gun was consistent with the damage done at the sister formal wear store in Escambia County.
Two suspects, Jonathan Galloway and Jonathan Hardy remain missing as of Friday according to Beverly’s report.
Beverly declined to make any further statement after being detained in September. He currently remains lodged at Santa Rosa County jail on $10,500 bond.
