Midshipman Pearson graduates
Midshipman Scott Richard Pearson, who resides at 5655 Sandstone Drive, Pace, graduated on June 21 from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY, with the 198 members of the class of 2010.
Scott is the son of Richard & Jeanie Pearson. Scott received a Third Mates Unlimited Tonage License and Masters License for fifteen hundred tons or less Merchant Marine License at the ceremony as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree.
Scott was a two-time All-American in Swimming at the Academy. He accepted a commission to the United States Army, and is awaiting orders. Scott’s brother, Bard, is a first classman at the Academy, and will be graduating next June.
Midshipman Pearson was nominated to the academy by Congressman Jeff Miller.
U.S. Navy Admiral Michael G. Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, delivered the keynote address at the academy’s 74th Commencement. Dr. Shashi N. Kumar, the academy’s interim superintendent, presented the class of 2010 with their academic credentials.
The academy is operated by the Maritime Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
